Realising Targeted Poverty Alleviation: Pioneering with Novelties

SIE Fund strives to promote social innovation and has continuously introduced innovative solutions to address social needs in the past ten years, resulting in four “First-of-its-kind in Hong Kong” projects. These include “FOOD-CO” - the first all- dimensional food support collaborative platform in Hong Kong; "Start from the Beginning - Chinese Supporting Scheme for Non-Chinese Speaking Students (NCS) in Kindergarten" - the first “Pay-for-Success “ project in Hong Kong; “Gerontechnology Platform“ - the first cross-disciplinary initiative of its kind in Hong Kong; “CharityToday” – the first one-stop search and application platform for assistance programmes in Hong Kong.

FOOD-CO

The FIRST All-dimensional Food Support Collaborative Platform in Hong Kong

Having regard that the food support service sector as a whole is facing challenges, such as lack of information, unmatched supply and demand, as well as high running costs, the SIE Fund engaged St. James' Settlement to launch a food support collaborative platform (FOOD-CO). Making use of information technology and data analysis, FOOD-CO connects stakeholders in the sector like operators, donors and volunteers and has achieved significant results, having effectively enhanced the effectiveness and efficiency of food support services in Hong Kong.

Pay-for-Success

The FIRST “Pay-for-Success” Project in Hong Kong

The SIE Fund has taken up the role of Commissioner of the first “Pay-for-Success” (PFS) project launched in Hong Kong, namely, "Start from the Beginning - Chinese Supporting Scheme for Non-Chinese Speaking Students (NCS) in Kindergarten". The Project was launched by Oxfam Hong Kong and offers Chinese enrichment classes to NCS kindergarten students, with the objective of helping NCS kindergarten students improve their Chinese proficiency and learning motivation, enhancing kindergarten teachers' capability of teaching NCS students Chinese, and thereby relieving the poverty and social exclusion issues of NCS students in the long run.

Gerontechnology Platform

The FIRST Inclusive Inter- and Multi-disciplinary and One-stop Gerontechnology Platform in Hong Kong

The Gerontechnology Platform aims to link up different stakeholders on the supply and demand sides and enhance synergy by way of engagement, cross-sector partnership and collaboration. The Gerontechnology Platform comprises four basic functionalities, namely (1) a knowledge hub; (2) network and capacity building; (3) consultancy, localisation and testing support; and (4) impact assessment, with a view to enhancing the quality of life, independence and self-reliance of the elderly as well as providing support to their families, caregivers, healthcare staff and institutions.

CharityToday

The FIRST New Model of Charitable Support in Hong Kong

Launched by St. James’ Settlement and applying information technology to social service, CharityToday aims to establish a new model of charitable support with a new one-stop search and application platform for assistance programmes. Through this digital platform, beneficiaries of subsidy programmes can enjoy dignity, convenience and a diversity of choices. The first stage of the project focuses on food support, and the subsidies are distributed to the beneficiaries through Octopus Card, the stored value facility with a high penetration rate in Hong Kong.
